La Russa to manage 2012 NL All-Star team
NEW YORK – The retired Tony La Russa will serve as the manager of the National League All-Star team for the 2012 Midsummer Classic at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City on July 10th.
The longtime manager of the St. Louis Cardinals, La Russa retired after his club’s 2011 World Series Championship.
La Russa also led the NL All-Stars in 2005 and 2007. It will mark his sixth Midsummer Classic managerial assignment, matching Joe Torre’s total and surpassed only by Hall of Famers Casey Stengel (10), Walter Alston (9) and Joe McCarthy (7). While coaching the Oakland Athletics, La Russa was the American League All-Star skipper from 1989-1991.

Men’s Golf Team Hopes for Fast Start
The Albion College men’s golf team is hoping that hosting the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s first jamboree will provide the momentum for a successful fall season. According to Jordan Rich, ’03, who is gearing up for his sixth season as coach, the Britons have set the goal of finishing two places higher in the standings to have the opportunity to play for a position in the NCAA tournament. Moving
Preseason expectations low for UCLA football team
Three seasons into the Rick Neuheisel era, expectations for UCLA might be lower than ever this fall.
A Sporting News ranking of all 120 major college teams slots the Bruins at No. 84, ahead of only woebegone Washington State among their Pacific 12 Conference brethren.
Of course, as offensive lineman Mark Asper of fifth-ranked Oregon notes, “Preseason rankings are like dialogue on ‘Baywatch’ you need them to keep the show going, but they don’t mean anything to anyone except nerds.”
USC is ranked 25th.
LSU is No. 1.

Revere girls track team has talented, young sprint corps
BATH TWP., Ohio – Not since 2003 had the Green Bulldogs’ boys and girls teams swept the Revere Relays.
Never in the 24-year history of the event had a 4×400-meter relay team run faster than did the Green boys on Friday night at Pappano Stadium.
In the final race of the meet, the Bulldogs’ foursome of Jake Wheeler, Michael Murawski, Craig Mellinger and Andrew Pratt was clocked at 3:26.98 and won by more than four seconds.
They erased the previous record time of 3:27.40 set by Nordonia in 1999.
“Coming out of the blocks, I was trying to get out as fast as I can … try to decide the race right there,” said Wheeler, out of breath and having only recently joined the unit. “It’s prett
