Britons Gain MIAA Academic Awards
ALBION, Mich. – Nearly 140 scholar-athletes from Albion College have been named to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s Academic Honor Roll for their performance in the classroom during the 2010-2011 academic year.
In all, 136 Britons earned the distinction which is awarded to scholar-athletes who earned a varsity letter in one of the 18 sports sponsored by the MIAA or served as an athletic trainer and maintained at least a 3.5 grade point average for the entire academic year.
Special recognition goes to Mike Albano (Rockford/Rockford), Ben Alger (Grass Lake/Grass Lake), Laurie Anderson (Hartland/Hartland), Stephanie Beattie (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy), Lauren Beck (Deer Park, Texas/Clear Lake), Zach Benedict (Manchester/Manchester), Alexis Brumm (Troy/Seaholm), Ashley Collins (Saginaw/Heritage), Angela Derrick (Midland/Dow), Mark Feger (Kinde/Laker), Dana Koenig (Midland/Midland), Caryn Miller (Farmington Hills/Farmington), and Jacob Rinkinen (Highland/Lutheran Northwest) for achieving distinction on the Academic Honor Roll all four years.
Ten Albion squads (men’s cross country, women’s cross country, men’s golf, women’s golf, women’s soccer, softball, women’s swimming & diving, women’s tennis, women’s track & field and volleyball) earned MIAA Team GPA awards for achieving a 3.3 GPA for the academic year. The women’s soccer and women’s tennis programs have earned the Team GPA award every year since its introduction in 1998-1999.
