Jesiel, Orr tabbed as preseason All-Americans
Excitement for Albion College’s 2011 football season continued to build June 20 as junior running back Clinton Orr and junior left tackle Shane Jesiel were listed on the pre-season NCAA Division III All-America teams released by Consensus Draft Services.
Orr was listed on the second team offense and as an honorable mention pick on special teams as a kick returner. The Buchanan native finished second in Division III in all-purpose yards last season at nearly 200 per game. He also finished ninth in Division III in rushing at nearly 140 yards per game and 11th in scoring with 18 touchdowns. Orr gained more than 100 rushing yards in eight of the 10 contests in 2010, exploding for 233 against Adrian and 212 against Hope. H

Dodgers: MLB’s offer a ‘deal with the devil’
WILMINGTON, DELAWARE – The Los Angeles Dodgers fought on Wednesday to keep control of their finances while in bankruptcy, arguing Major League Baseball’s offer to provide a $150 million loan was a “deal with the devil.”
The Dodgers want to borrow the money from a hedge fund and told a Delaware Bankruptcy Court that the league wants to use its cheaper loan as a way to strip the team from owner Frank McCourt.
The league’s proposal would give MLB “absurd” rights to reject deals by the team, even if the transaction led to the full payment of the loan, Dodgers’ lawyer Bruce Bennett said at the start of the hearing.
“It’s inconceivable I could agree to this,” he said.
C Division Girls’ Basketball: SCGS and New Town post big wins in Group D opening matches
Clementi Sports Hall, Friday, July 15, 2011 The Singapore Chinese Girls School and New Town Secondary posted big wins in both teams opening matches at the National C Division Girls Basketball Championship. SCGS saw off Dunman High 42-21 while New Town defeated Anderson 41-21 in the other Group D match.
