NFL, players: progress toward deal
NEW YORK (AP) – Noting that “progress has been made,” NFL owners and players wrapped up a round of intensive talks without a full agreement to end the league’s four-month lockout, but determined to keep pushing over the weekend.
NFL Players Association head DeMaurice Smith expects to speak with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in the next couple of days, possibly in person, while the two sides’ legal and financial teams continue working. After about eight hours of negotiations in New York on Friday — tacked onto more than 25 hours across Wednesday and Thursday — the league and players issued a joint statement, saying: “The discussions this week have been constructive and progress has been made on a wide range of issues.”
They did not reveal any details, citing a gag order imposed by the court-appointed mediator, U.S. Mag

Burgham Horse Trials is set to become one of Northumberland’s largest equestrian events, and competitors are also being offered FREE tickets to the ‘Burgham Bash’.
In addition to the competition which hosts BE90, BE100 and Novice classes ( for further informaton), this year’s Burgham Horse Trials also has plenty on offer outside of the competition.
The Burgham Bash will take place on Saturday 23rd June from 8pm until 1am, and will feature live music from top local band “Hip Operation”, as well as a licensed bar and food including hog roast and kebabs!

Statement
Pattie Biden, Regional Coordinator for the Southern Region, has suffered a minor stroke. She is currently in hospital undergoing tests. She is improving rapidly and the great news is that the prognosis is good. We have been told that she is not receiving visitors at present and not to send any flowers please. Robert Mackenzie has very kindly agreed to step in as Regional Coordinator whilst Pattie is recovering.
We all wish Pattie a speedy recovery and will of course keep everyone informed once we have further updates.
Men’s Golf Team Hopes for Fast Start
The Albion College men’s golf team is hoping that hosting the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s first jamboree will provide the momentum for a successful fall season. Albion and its league rivals will gather at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall Sept. 8 for the first of eight rounds to determine the champion and the three other teams that will vie for the MIAA’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships in the spring.
According to Jordan Rich, ’03, who is gearing up for his sixth season as coach, the Britons have set the goal of finishing two places higher in the standings to have the opportunity to play for a position in the NCAA tournament. Moving
