Medina boys, Brunswick girls win cross country meet

 

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio — Robert Robinson, Brad Polocko and Tommy Menyes each finished in the top 10 Saturday at the Revere Invitational cross country meet at Howe Meadow Park to help give Medina the boys team title, edging out Hudson and Massillon Jackson.

Hudson’s Nolan Reilly was the winner of the 5K race with a time of 16:18.29. Mike Miller, of Strongsville, placed second at 16:21.44, followed by Robinson (16:28.25) and Polocko (16:29.34) in third and fourth, respectively. St

Asian Schools Volleyball: Singapore defeat Macau for much needed win and keep semi-final hopes alive

Tien Son Sport Complex, Tuesday, August 23, 2011 Singapore beat Macau 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-14) in their Group B preliminary match of the Asian Schools Girls Volleyball Championship. Having lost to Iran 0-3 the previous night, this victory over Macau was a much needed one in order to keep their hopes of reaching the semi-finals alive.

Singapore finished the match with 38 kills, four blocks and 11 service aces. Ong Weiyu (Singapore #3) fronted the Singapore attack as she contributed 11 kills to the teams total tally. After a dismal performance in the previous match against Iran, she bounced back to emerge as one of the biggest threats as she pounded the Macau defense with her spikes from the outside.

Coach Rick Neuheisel’s hot seat is well worn

UCLA Coach Rick Neuheisel tried a preemptive strike a few weeks ago at the Pacific 12 Conference’s football media day.

He opened with a joke: “I’m excited to be here. As a coach on the proverbial hot seat, I’m excited to be invited to any of these things.”

Laughing it off?

Not quite.

In the game of college football monopoly, Neuheisel may have just one dice roll left. After three seasons in which UCLA has looked no better off then when he was hired in 2008, fans are restless.

Athletic Director Dan Guerrero has done nothing to alleviate the pressure, saying as far back as last winter, “Rick knows there is maybe one shot to straighten this thing out.”

So this could be win or go home.

But that doesn’t mean it’s definitely a farewell tour.

Albion Ranked Third Regionally In Men’s Cross Country

The Albion College men’s cross country team begins the 2011 season where it left off last season – ranked third in the Great Lakes region – according to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s Preseason ranking released Aug. 23.

W. Volleyball. Two WCC Women’s Volleyball Matches To Air on ESPNU

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Two West Coast Conference women’s volleyball matches will be aired nationally on ESPNU this season along with 14 other televised matches on BYUtv and the Longhorn Network. The two ESPNU matches will feature conference matchups between Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount and Saint Mary’s and San Diego, both of which will take place in October.

Loyola Marymount’s home match against crosstown rival Pepperdine is set for Wednesday, October 5 at 6:00 PM PT and is part of ESPN’s Wednesday Night Women’s Volleyball Package. The matchup will feature the first place team in the WCC preseason coaches poll, Pepperdine, and an LMU team looking to come back from a fourth place finish last season.
