Tallmadge football proves to be too much for Grizzlies

WADSWORTH, Ohio – You don’t tug on Superman’s cape. You don’t spit into the wind. You don’t pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger. And apparently you don’t take Tallmadge’s football team for granted.

The reigning Suburban League champion Blue Devils were 13-point underdogs by some Internet sites coming into Friday’s game with Wadsworth.

It’s a good thing games aren’t played on paper, because what happened on the field was a lesson in dominance as Tallmadge demolished the previously undefeated Grizzlies 38-13 on their home turf.

With Wadsworth (7-1, 4-1) rolling through anyone and everyone this year, many forgot just how good the Blue Devils (6-2, 5-0) were.

Winners of five in a row and conference champions in five of the last seven seasons, Tallmadge came in ready to lay claim to win No. 6 this season.

Make a date at Cheltenham with Equestrian Team GBR

Friday 11 November is the date for this year’s Countryside Race Day at Cheltenham Racecourse, the home of National Hunt racing. This year is especially important for equestrian enthusiasts as besides supporting the Countryside Alliance it is a high profile fundraising event for Equestrian Team GBR in their build up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

While it will be high-class racing as usual at this Open Meeting, the day offers much more; British equestrian athletes will be supporting the race day and an early highlight will be the invitational celebrity cross-country ride, supported by Paddy Power. R

UCLA has head start in conference play for first time since 2007

UCLA sits atop the Pacific 12 Conference South Division standings (tied with Arizona State). The Bruins are looking down on USC and, hey, what Bruin doesn’t?

No one, especially Coach Rick Neuheisel, is talking about football monopolies.

UCLA has not been in this position in a long time, but with sixth-ranked Stanford coming up Saturday, there was no reason to deviate from the coach-speak. Neuheisel stuck to the “one game at a time” file card.

Still, the Bruins have an opportunity.

The victory over winless Oregon State left UCLA 1-0 in conference play for the first time since 2007. Get more…
