Overall thoughts: “It was a good opening night for our guys, in a lot of different ways. I thought the Gardner-Webb kids really competed. They played really hard. They didn’t back down at all, physically, and obviously had a good run. We let our guard down when we were up 26-13. They got some confidence, made a couple of plays, we had some bad turnovers that led to a couple of baskets and we go into halftime and they had all the momentum.

Cal Coach Jeff Tedford squeezed more efficiency out of quarterback Zach Maynard last week by moving him around.
Maynard had three passes intercepted against USC two weeks ago. He completed 19 of 29 passes for 255 yards and one touchdown without an interception in a 34-10 victory over Utah last week.

Frank Starkie Memorial Cup

Once again the British Association of Track and Field Leagues (BATFL) are honouring the memory of its former chair Frank Starkie for club officials called the Frank Starkie Memorial Cup.
Nominations for the award can only be made by clubs, who are members of leagues affiliated to BATFL, and nominees must be a member of a track and field club that competes in League athletics.
Citations should draw attention to the nominee’s work for the club or league as organiser, official, team manager or helper showing the breadth of tasks and/ or the time they have been carried out. Wh
