B Div Vball: Xinmin beat Clementi Town to keep semi-final hopes
Presbyterian High, Wednesday, March 21, 2012 Xinmin Secondary kept their hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals alive after a 2-0 (25-19, 25-18) victory over Clementi Town Secondary in their Round Two, Group Y match at the National B Division Boys Volleyball Championship.
Xinmin had suffered a shock 2-1 loss to Catholic High in an earlier match and desperately needed a win to stay in the game. The teams also received an added boost as they welcomed the return of Kevin (Xinmin #3) and Glen (#8), who had both been out of action for the previous match due to injury.
Xinmin were on form today as they scored 40 points via 30 kills, four blocks, six service aces.
Bucs sign former Saints All-Pro guard
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed All-Pro guard Carl Nicks and cornerback Eric Wright to five-year contracts.
Nicks was one of the key blockers for Drew Brees on the Saints’ record-setting offense. He’s considered one of the best pass blockers in the NFL. He made the Pro Bowl the last two seasons.
He is the second Saint to leave New Orleans in the past two days. Wide receiver Robert Meachem signed a four-year contract with the Chargers late on Tuesday.
Wright, a five-year veteran, was with the Lions last season after spending four years in Cleveland.
Twinsburg girls basketball dominates after halftime for win
CANTON, Ohio – Twinsburg girls basketball coach Julie Solis regularly talks about her team’s ability to push themselves to a new level when they need to. Well, on Tuesday night they may have skipped the next level and jumped clear to the one after that in a 56-33 win over Berea Midpark in a Division I regional semifinal played at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.
The Tigers never led in the first quarter against the Meteors and jumped in front just twice briefly in the first half on baskets by junior guard Ashley Morrissette, the second of which came with 50 seconds remaining in the half to give Twinsburg a 25-23 halftime lead.
The Tigers became a new team coming out of halftime, running off 13 straight points in the first four minutes of the third quarter and outscoring Midpark 17-2 overall in the period. Twin
